iPad web usage passes iPod

So my prediction from six and a half weeks ago came through, with a couple of days to spare. iPad has surpassed iPod in web traffic. It took only two months and two million units, compared to almost 3 years and about 40 million iPod touches out there. That means iPads use the web roughly 20 times as much as iPod touches.

Also, not only has iPad more than doubled Android 2.1's share, it's now past all Android OS's combined. No idea how many units make up the Android installed base. See the whole two-month-long comparison below.

July 1st Update, they're a month late on it, but Net Market Share is mentioning it now: iPad Blows Past Android and iPod Touch in Browser Usage

The ipad is a great video player too. I watch last nights tv on my commute with it every morning. It's way more comfortable to hold on the train. And since I got it, several of my neighboring commuters have picked it up for exactly that.

having played with the ipad a couple of times it seems like it does many things well. certainly the best photo manager i've used, excellent selection of apps, and amazing fast at performing standard tasks. beats my acer netbook running Win7 hands down.

My favorite consumer product I've ever owned.

I'm confused about the data. It shows no iPad web usage before March, even though the iPad came out in January. Then, by the end of March, iPad web usage already surpasses the most popular version of Android. That seems odd.

The iPad was announced in January but not available for purchase until April 3rd.

Each tick mark on the bottom is 4 days, so iPad when from 0% on April 1st and surpassed any single Android version on about 4/16

Ah. Thanks for the reminder about when the iPad first shipped. That clears up my confusion.

Looks a bit like iPad is cannibalizing iPod usage. I'd be curious to see if the same effect is happening versus MacBooks.

Nostra, I don't see it. See this one year comparison with iPod. And this one against Mac OS X.

However, it do not necessarily mean that there are more iPads on the market than Android devices.
